Every Creative Executive’s path to success looks different. But the mistakes that knock us off course are universal, and easy to get caught in. Do these sound familiar?
- You don’t know how others experience you. You may think you know how you’re doing, but you will never have the full picture unless you get feedback from others.
- You live in a bubble. You don’t see what’s happening on your team. Or you’re shut off from fresh ideas and trapped in the “this is how we’ve always done it mindset.”
- You’re not clear on what you’re responsible for. What are the most important ways for you to “plus it” and add value?
- You don’t mentor or champion your people. Your team members can thrive only when they feel safe and valued. They need to know you have their back and that you care about their future.
- You don’t know how to admit mistakes or failure. This keeps others from trusting you and keeps you from learning.

- You don’t nurture your own creativity. Your creativity won’t perform on demand at work. It takes cultivation. Give some time to your own creative projects. Feed your brain something inspiring. Do what it takes.
- You have no life outside work. Neglecting family, friends and the other things you value sets you up for burnout. Being lopsided just isn’t sustainable.
- You don’t make time for the bigger picture. We get it. You’ve got a lot to do just to get through the week. But if you don’t have a big-picture vision, or if you’re not checking in with your vision regularly, you’re missing out on the spark your work needs.
